Ingredients:

  • 1 cup split pegon peas
  • 2 teaspoon cup white lentils
  • 1 cup Bengal split gram
  • Ginger chopped 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic chopped 1 teaspoon
  • Green chili chopped
  • Star anise 3
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 cinamonc sticks
  • 5 cloves
  • Asafoetida
  • 1 onion chopped
  • Butter 4 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Tamrind 1 inch
  • Jaggery 1 inch
  • Curd 4 teaspoon
Procedure:
  • Boil all the lentils.  In a pan heat butter.  Add cumin seeds once it crackels.
  • Add garlic, Green chili and ginger.  Saute for a minute.  Add onion, cook until soft.  
  • Add cinnamon, bay leaf, cloves, star anise.
  • Cook for 2 minutes.  
  • Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, asafoetida.  Mix well
  • Add curd and cook for 2 minutes.  Add boiled lentils and salt.  Mix well and boil for 20 minutes.  
  • Add tamarind and jaggery and boil for another 5 minutes.  
  • Switch of the flame garnish dal with onion and red chili powder.
